F-16 History

With the introduction of the F-16 within the Hellenic Air Force, the squadrons themselves were responsible for the training task. After a few years this didn’t seem to be very effective in using the different squadrons’ operational capabilities. It was therefore decided to create dedicated training units. Since Néa Anghialos hosted the most F-16 squadrons of any Greek base, it was decided to create such a unit here.

At first only block 30’s were delivered with a majority of the D-models being delivered to SMET. With the introduction of the block 50 also these airframes found their way to the SMET.

The unit is only tasked with F-16 advanced pilot training of both the block 30 and block 50.
