Hello

I was in his squadron and remember this day vividly; it was the first time I've really had to deal with a friend/coworker death. Since he died just before Memorial Day weekend I always remember him for paying the ultimate sacrifice.

Hard to believe it's been 23-years. All my best to Sharon,

"The pilot"

We live in Pearson and my wife was in school the day this happened. She remembers it vividly. Whenever the subject comes up, folks are quick to note what "The Pilot" did that day to avoid the school. For what it's worth to those who visit this page, his actions that day have never been forgotten by locals.

Memories of Gene

I was a young lieutenant and we worked together at Moody, he was the DOX, plans officer in our small hallway in the DO building, I saw him every day. I remember when his wife brought their new daughter to our building, they were walking down the hall holding hands, the image of mom and daughter is so vivid to this day! I was so lucky to meet that sweet little girl, and Gene was just thrilled! I PCSed to another base just before his death and was gutted, I cried so hard for his wife and new daughter. One of my friends sent me his funeral card and I treasure it to this day. Was thinking about them today for some reason and thanks to social media, was able to quickly find them both, I'm just so happy they are doing well. I would never intrude in their lives or want to bring back a time of such shock and sorrow, but maybe they will read this and know how proud he was of them.
