Heartbroken
Jeff Roach, Oct 19, 2009 - 05:35 PM

As one of Nick's instructors in pilot training and a fellow IP at Sheppard, I am heartbroken for the loss of such a great man. Nick was an example to all of us as a godly husband, loving father, and outstanding patroit and warrior. My prayers are with Leigh and the entire Giglio family. Until we meet again, brother, on the streets of gold......

My family and I are heartbroken by the news. Leigh, we all are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Sara and I were always thankful for the time we all spent together while Nick and I were cadets. God bless.

Outstanding young man
Jim Anderson, Lt Col, USAF (ret), Oct 19, 2009 - 08:36 PM

Nick was one of my cadets at Embry-Riddle. My family and I are heart broken to hear this terrible news. Although I worked with hundreds of cadets during my time there, Nick was one of the few who still stand out to me and who impacted many others at Det 157. I pray for God's comfort for his family.

Chaney, Oct 20, 2009 - 02:13 AM

My heart breaks for those he left behind...

He surely gave his all for the country we all love.

Everyone needs to be grateful for all the airmen and the families who are left behind in their sacrifice.

Prayers, blessings and wishes of comfort for Leigh and those who surround her.

My prayer
Megan, Oct 20, 2009 - 02:17 AM

Our prayers are with Leigh and the Giglio family.

And Now This
Bo McGowan, Oct 20, 2009 - 03:34 AM

God blessed me with the opportunity to be one of Nick's Instructor Pilots at Sheppard--teaching him to teach in the T-37. He did not waste a single minute--he was the example that Paul talked about when he told us to "work heartily as if for the Lord, not by way of eyeservice", likewise Nick let his light shine before men so that they could see his good works and glorify his Father who is in Heaven. Nick has joined our Savior--I already miss him. To Ms Leigh--I still remember those Sunday School classes and your beautiful smile--know that Nick left this world as a Saint saved by Jesus--You will see him again. My heart is heavy but I know that Jesus did not leave him for one second--See you later Nick

Prayers
Young Family, Oct 20, 2009 - 05:26 PM

My family and I would like to extend our condolences at your loss. I'm a Marywood Alumni and heard about this tragic news. We have been praying and will continue to do so. May God wrap his arms around you and give you strength and grace in this time of sorrow. Nicholas is in a much great place but it doesn't take away the pain here on earth. Here are the lyrics to a song that brought great comfort to us at a recent loss in our family.

My latest sun is sinking fast,

My race is nearly run

My strongest trials now are past,

My triumph has begun.

Oh, come Angel Band

Come and around me stand

Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings

To my immortal home

Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings

To my immortal home.

Oh, bear my longing heart to him

Who bled and died for me

Whose blood now cleanses from all sin

And gives me victory.

Oh, come Angel Band

Come and around me stand

Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings

To my immortal home

Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings

To my immortal home...

As a T-37 crew chief at Sheppard for 27 years I have seen countless remarkable men and women come thru the ENJJPT program-students and IP's alike. Even in this company, Nick was exceptional. He always hit the ramp with a smile and some friendly conversation. The guy was never down. He was truly glad to be there and always made me feel the same. Nick was very well-liked and respected by all of the crew chiefs and we all enjoyed spending a little time with him during launches and recovery. We are saddened by his loss. My heartfelt condolences go to his family. You and this great country have lost an outstanding young man. I am proud to have known him.

My son died, June 22, 2009, while on an F-16 training mission in Utah. My heart hurts for this family. I know the pain. I understand the sacrifice.

Please know that in this world there is a glimpse of hope, the hope that, yes, we will be met at the gates of Heaven....by the ones that have gone before us.

Our condolence for your loss.

He was another brave and patriot solider in the long fight against terror.

At the moment there is an American/Israeli join exercise in Israel simulating how to defeat the terror.

As a true friends of America we wish to share this moment of sorrow with you.

May he'll rest in peace!

From your Recruiter
SMSgt (ret) Ed Bujan, Oct 21, 2009 - 03:42 PM

Nick enlisted in the Air Force because his dream was to fly. After attending his High School graduation I shared some time with him and his lovely family and realized this dream was one day going to become a reality. His room was decorated with model F-16 jets. He did what we tell all the folks that enlist, go to school and get your degree and he did. He went to Embry Riddle and graduated and became an Air Force Officer. I had the pleasure of attending his wedding and he was my guest at my retirement ceremony in 2006. He presented me with his flying helmet as a token of the impact I had on his life and career. My wife and I also attended his F-16 graduation and got to see the Leigh and the family. I am proud of him and what he did for our country and our Air Force. We will miss him and we pray for the Giglio family. SMSgt (ret) Ed Bujan, your proud recruiter.

Nick was truely one of the finest men I have ever met. Always smiling, he had a love for God, his family, and the Air Force. He was a great instructor and most importantly a great person... May he rest in the arms of our LORD as he is shown his eternal reward; and may the peace of Christ be with his family and friends.

To the Giglio Family: We send our sincere condolences on the loss of one so young, a husband and father and a patriot. We pray for you and feel your pain. Our son died in a T38 crash on May 22, 2009. We know what you going through. Please know that we are thinking of you.

From a crew chief and friend ...
Michael DF Lowe, Oct 22, 2009 - 01:20 AM

Nick was always the shining example of an ENJJPT student and then the same as an IP. He brought many a smile to our faces on the ramp when any of us had the pleasure to encounter him. I enjoyed every moment I got to assist buckling him in and those brief conversations ending with a knuckle rap just before launching him off and then to look up and get that salute as he pulled away. He sure had a way about him to make me feel proud to be out there doing that job.

Many a time we had a chance to hang out and talk at graduations and other special events. He was always a great guy and perfect example of an Air Force Officer. My heartfelt sympathies to his Family and children. Know this Leigh ... he will never be forgotten as many of us here will remember him as one of the best!

Softball player
Joe Morris, Oct 24, 2009 - 01:34 AM

Nick played on our softball team at Colonial Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. He was a great player and teammate. Nothing got by him in the outfield, and man was he fast around the bases. I told him that Yankee's can't play softball--I WAS WRONG!! If we had extra players he was the first to ask to come out so they could play. He was liked by everyone. He will be missed by all that knew him. We can all be assured that he is in Heaven as his faith showed in all that he did.

To Nick's family
Carlana and Mike, Oct 24, 2009 - 05:51 PM

The Giglio's lived across the cul-de-sac from us when they were in Wichita Falls. Nick was the first one to help with any project that needed assistance. He was a great husband and father; I remember the night before Mike had his heart attach and he, Brian and Nick were all out in the front yard. Nick had Gracie with him (she was about 5 days old) showing her off to the othe dads and letting Leigh get some rest. No dad was any more excited to be a dad! He was first and foremost a Godly man - he loved his Lord with all his heart. He loved his country and his family and all mankind. Leigh, you can take comfort in the fact that he left this world doing what he loved to do! We will miss him and hold his memory in our hearts; we hold you close, also, and look forward to the time that we'll all be reunited when we leave this world for our Heavenly eternal home.

Capt Bill & Ashlea Johnson, Oct 26, 2009 - 05:36 PM

Giglio Family-

As a fellow FAIP with Nick, I had the honor of flying with him. It goes without saying, that Nick was an amazing aviator, instructor, and friend. He was always willing to go out of his way to help any person in need and had a sense of humor that could always brighten the mood whether on the ramp, in the cockpit, or at the dinner table. May the Lord comfort your soul and we pray that he bless you with peace during this very difficult time for you and your family. Here's a toast!

This sad news came to me in Norway today. I remember Nick Giglio as one of the finest FAIPs at the 89th FTS. I had the pleasure to work with him for 3 years , as his Ops Officer, before he moved on to his F-16 dream. He was so excited the day he got his assignment. A solid, positive and a good person has left us. RIP Nick.

you are proof that freedom is not free. Fly on Capt.Forever missed.

Derick Redieck, Aug 16, 2013 - 04:44 AM

Sir,

I saw you name in a forms binder when i was deployed to Iraq not long after the incident (the accident happen 2 weeks before i arrived at shaw as a brand new airman). I was told to remove the page and update it and i respectfully declined. Seemed like the only tribute i could make to a pilot who gave his all. I never met or crewed a jet for you but i knew the name. And it reminds to crew my jet to the best of my ability every day. RIP brother

Cadet Giglio
Maj Scott, Aug 20, 2013 - 07:29 AM

Nick and I attended ROTC together at 157 and of all the cadets I can honestly say that he was likely the most dedicated, respected, and driven cadet that I can remember. From day 1 of me joining the program I can remember him being the one who showed a vested interest in my success as a cross over from the enlisted. He'd gone the same route so he wanted to make sure I didn't hit the same bumps in the road that he did. He was a great role model and as you read the comments here you can tell he was an all around great person. The crew chief comment above is just one example of how he is now and will always be remembered because he touched so many of our lives.

Rescue Airman
TSgt Rafael Orozco (Ret), Oct 27, 2016 - 06:02 PM

I was one of the Airmen that looked and scanned the sea quadrant where the good Captain went down thru the long day/night hours. we heard details of the incident and the family you left behind.

I wanted his family to know that I never forgot him and that we tried our damned best to locate the good Capt. and we're so sorry for your loss.

RIP and Godspeed good Capt.
