	Lieutenant Colonel John F. "Cobra" Porter 23 January 2000
Lieutenant-Colonel Porter was born on June 3rd, 1949 in Dover. He was a 1967 graduate of Dover High School and began his military career as a midshipman with the U.S. Naval Academy. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation and flew the F-4 after seven years to become a civilian pilot with Trans World Airlines, flying Lockheed L-1011 airlines.

Cobra was a great American, if more had his drive and integrity, the world would be a much better place. I was priveledged to fly with him for many years as a fellow flight student and as a squadronmate with the World Famous Fighting Shamrocks. He is missed. Semper Fi, my brother.....

A wonderful human being, the son of a Tuskegee Airman, and a true knight of the air. Cobra, I hope you out there somewhere in the blue beyond, listening to Jimi Hendrix through the headset, and clocking up endless hours on the P47, the P51 and, of course, that beloved F-16 of yours. You 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' too soon and we who must remain below still miss you.

John and I worked together as System Safety Engineers on the AH-64 Apache Helicopter at Hughes Helicopters in the early 1980's. We were the only Black American Engineers on the Apache Helicopter program, so we worked extraordinarily hard to assure our work was top-notch. John was always well kept and courteous. Both our Dad's served in World War II with the US Army Air Corps. We were like Brothers.
