News: 20 year old NF-16D VISTA redesignated an ‘X’ Plane to test Skyborg [2021-09-06]
The USAF is currently upgrading a modified version of its F-16 fighters, the NF-16D VISTA, to support autonomy testing for the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Skyborg program. The Air Force Test Pilot School (TPS) redesignated the NF-16D Variable In-flight Simulator Aircraft in June as the X-62A.

News: US Air Force successfully flying AI-controlled F-16 [2023-02-20]
An autonomous F-16 completed 17 hours of flight testing in December, including advanced fighter maneuvers and beyond-visual-range engagements. The AI algorithm controlling the jet was developed by DARPA's Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program.
