L3Harris Completes Safety-Of-Flight Testing On F-35 Computing Upgrade
01 Aug 2022 Steve Trimble

"L3Harris has completed safety-of-flight testing on the integrated core processor (ICP) upgrade for the Lockheed Martin F-35, the company said July 20.

As the core of the Technical Refresh-3 (TR-3) upgrade package, the L3Harris ICP provides a leap in computing performance, enabling a series of electronic warfare and sensor upgrades to follow in the Block 4 modernization program for the stealthy fighter.

The ICP entered safety-of-flight testing in the first quarter and received certification in the second quarter, L3Harris said in an investor note released alongside second-quarter earnings results. The milestone means the ICP can enter flight testing on the F-35.

The F-35 Joint Program Office is scheduled to deliver the TR-3 upgrade, which includes an upgraded memory unit and display processor, in Lot 15 aircraft, which begin deliveries in 2023."

That is good news, that it is still on track for lot 15. There are going to be a few hardware/sensor changes. Has anyone see an estimated cost, to install hardware/sensors from block 3F to full block 4 ? Not the development costs.

I'm guessing you need upgrade costs from older 3F aircraft to Block 4 standard? With development costs thrown in a 20 Billion Dollar figure is thrown around but what for exactly is not clear. Oz has set aside some money IIRC for the upgrade but the 'cost' as required probably is not known if 'what new stuff is going to be in the Block 4 upgrade' is not known today.
