JASDF may be in the market for more F-35s

It sounds (although difficult to know for sure) like they're already too far down the "F-15 advanced" road. Too much $ already spent and the last I heard, they wanted additional EX related "stuff" (EPAWSS/other F-15EX mods except the engine).
I wonder how much they've been swayed, seeing the US move to a hybrid F-15EX/F-35 fleet. Or the Israeli's. Or the Chinese for that matter. They're all holding on to, modifying our outright building new 4th gen + airframes, presumably to complement the stealth fleet.
I suspect that's playing a role.

The number of F-15Js to be upgraded for the JASDF continues to decline. From 150 to 70 to 54 (July 2025)...hardly worth spending all that money for so few aircraft. Which will still be obsolete when they arrive.

It is for Japan, as its doubling the defence budget to about £50 billion ($66 Billion) which is a huge jump for such a comparatively "small" military i.e. Mexico, Columbia and Thailand all have bigger militaries.
