The ACE (Adaptive Cycle Engine) is already being developed for the new NGAD. So, why not leverage it to foster some competition for the P&W F135?

The battle between the P&W F100 and GE F110 was very much a success for the Military and US Taxpayers! So, why couldn't it work again......

But don't tell the French that. It only upsets them and we'll hear about omnirole for a week

There has to be a F135 update, because the GE doesn't fit the F-35B. GE's XA100 for NGAD and has some senators, so they will get the nod to do one for the F-35. I think Australia will get the F135 update for cost efficiency.

Having an F136 sure would have been handy during an engine shortage.

Why not make more F135s? Congress orders more planes but NOT MORE ENGINES. Capiche? The little engine that could.

The GAO report is outdated. In the hearing video they said the engine numbers would be fixed about 2026? GAO agreed. Mainly from opening the service depots. They sat on their hands and got caught out.

It's kinda demoralizing to keep having to slog through these maintenance and affordability rates :bang:

It should be closer to a mature program by now. I'm still confident it will get there, but yeeesh. The ALIS problems, over procurement of planes and under procurement of spares, the engines, and cost is wearing on my nerves.

No. Don't be daft. F136 won't work in the Bee. GE was late to the party, does not have the tech (or patents?) for the lift fan.

F135 is the MOST RELIABLE gas turbine ever stuffed in a tactical combat aircraft.

The US Gov decided to go to a two tier depot maintenance model, but then didn't fund said model as required? D'oh! Oh, sh*t... what to do now? Let's blame the manufacturer!

There was an article / post recently about how the F-35 program deliberately purchased roughly 50% of the spares that historical programs (e.g. F-15, F-16, F/A-18 etc) procured. And the motor (F135) has largely lived up to what has been asked of it -- actually, more, since the thermal demands are already apparently at 2X the design (read: spec) level.

But hey... let's blame Pratt and pine and whine for GE motors.

If the Air Farce and Squids stick to engineering facts & figures, and release specs that are based on same, I'm pretty sure American engineering technology, whether it be GE or P&W, will produce a good solution (e.g. XA100 vs XA101). But since Congress is involved, I give it a greater than 50-50 chance that Congress will screw the pooch by mandating bullsh*t.

On the one hand, you have the US Congress (well, one party mainly), foaming at the mouth over how bad the F-35 is allegedly, but the same idiots can't get out of each other's way fawning over a new (GE) motor?

These congressional peons reveal how little they know whenever they open their mouths to rant at the F-35 program. They are either technological idiots, or they are posturing for the cameras / playing politics (with the lives of our warriors.) Truly disgusting, IMO.
Take an F-16, stir in A-7, dollop of F-117, gob of F-22, dash of F/A-18, sprinkle with AV-8B, stir well + bake. Whaddya get? F-35.
