The part that worries me is Gen Deptula's comments about how purchasing F-15X could lead to future F-35 cuts, thereby inducing a death spiral where F-35 prices increases due to cuts, which leads to further cuts etc.

I don't like it. This whole situation smells. The previous administration wore out a lot of equipment without replacing it.

This is all that needs to be said:

Corruption at it's finest.

That’s depressing.

Though the talk about death spirals for the F-35 is just trolling at this point.

Funny, they say Shanahan has recused himself with anything to do with Boeing. Yet, after the USAF said it didn't want anymore 4th Generation Fighters. (including F-15) They do a 180 and reverse course on the verge of a new budget. Even then they do so "half-heartedly". So, how could anybody not think the fix was in.....

It is well known that 'Engines' at PRUNE is Steve George - ex-Commander RN maintenance engineer SHAR & F-35B stuff.
'Engines' 29 Oct 2019
"... The F-35B is not 'significantly compromised'. Its design is deliberate and aimed at meeting KPPs that supported operation from ships. It's damn near the size of an F-4. It can launch from a ship at higher weights than the F-4 could from UK ships. It can land on with 3,200lbs of internal weapons. Its sensor and comms capabilities are way ahead of anything else out there. And it can operate from ships that have got around 600 feet of deck. It's the future of maritime air power for those countries that can't afford, or don't know how to build, CVN type carriers and the aircraft to go on them. (Right now, only the US can do that).

My view (and that's all it is) is that the next few years will see more and more countries putting F-35Bs on a variety of ships, some called 'aircraft carriers'. The Japanese, South Koreans and Italians are al moving that way. The UK seems to be planning a joint UK/USMC air wing for the QE's 2021 deployment, with somewhere about 24 aircraft embarked...."

Just more, re-hashed articles that that rag of a website, National Interest, is re-running. This one from 2016. The original being the article John Venable wrote for the Heritage Foundation. Gee... National Interest trying to jump on the F-35 band wagon after all? Wonder if David Axe had to choke on much crow to give the Okay for National Interest to (re)publish a 3+ year old accurate (and positive) piece on the F-35?

Recent interview with ex RAF F35B pilot from the Aircrew Interviews site. Interesting comments on the early training environment, Helmet efficacy and excess thrust. Not sure if he is being nonchalant or being cautious regarding OPSEC, but he doesn’t seem over enthused.

He'd be in the distinct minority view.

"...but he doesn’t seem over enthused." Having watched the entire interview I would suggest 'British' understatement. From my viewpoint HUGH having flown early restricted F-35Bs HUGH did not see the range of activities available today. Anyway he has his actual experience to begin talking about - it must be difficult when he knows he is not talking to fellow pilots. Otherwise I think HUGH does a good job explaining what he can - while drinking warm beer it looks like.

Interesting discussion with current F35 and ex-viper pilot at link below from a new podcast called ‘The Afterburn’ (link opens in TuneIn Radio app). Pertinent F35 bits between 5.21 and 16.59. Some good nuggets to be found.

Eye-Opening comment at the end of the segment at around 15min 20sec where pilot describes being 60-80 miles distant from wingman receiving shared info. Then when that stops the wingman is so FAR AWAY he is not much help for a bit.

I would emphasize the term “multirole” after experiencing this jet in many roles, and now also in a dogfight. The F-35 has a real bite! Those in doubt will be surprised when they finally meet this «bomber”.
