I also prefer to spend money on twin engine high performance EF-2000s rather than F16V. We need a replacement for F4T which is also a twin engine heavy fighter and we have to add alternative jets rather than american made in our inventory long time ago.
The logic that "twin-engined plane must be replaced by twin-engine plane" is very stupid.
We always want the cheapest and smallest vehicle that can perform the mission. There is zero sense to buy something just because it's heavier.
But, often harder mission requirements lead to bigger and more expensive vehicles.
USAF happily replaced most of it's F-4's with F-16A's and F-16C's.
