A few questions for sim realism:

Before the Common Configuration Implementation Program, did the USAF block 40/42 jets have:
- JDAM capability?
- limited air-to-air data link?

Also, when did they stop using the LANTIRN navigation pod?

And have the block 30 jets been upgraded with multi color MFD's?

Thanks in advance!

The software to use JDAM on all USAF Block 40/42 was added in 2002 apparently. (JDAMs were added sometime around 2001 and used in combat in 2002 on USAF Block 50/52.)

Block 40/42 was the last CCIP stage so maybe some had IAM capability before CCIP was added but not certain.

Don't know when Block 30s first had color MFDs - ANG Block 30s appear to have had color moving maps by 2012 and were upgraded with color CDUs from 2017.

To quote: All Surviving Vipers now have full color MFCDs. These were added late in production to block 50/52 machines. Earlier jets had them retrofitted during CCIP or CUPID (Block 30) programs.( Melampy 2019)

CUPID or whatever it ended up being called was in progress from around 2001.

Thanks!

Anything known about when the different blocks got (limited) air-to-air data link capabilities? Was this with the introduction of Link 16 or did some of them have it already before?

US Block 25/30/32 got SADL instead of Link 16 from end of 1998 which has an Air to Air mode. It can communicate with Link 16 for that purpose also.

US Block 40/42 was down to get an IDM update including a stated "Air combat" capability around 2000 time period which was about 5 years before Link 16 in CCIP phase III.

US Block 40 to 52 & EPAF MLUs were supposed to have the same software from Tape M4.2 - cannot say whether that included IDM. Block 50/52 were supposed to start getting Link 16 from 2003 anyway.

To be more specific, during operation Iraqi Freedom in the beginning of 2003, did the participating Blk30/32 and 40/42 units have an air-to-air data link? In references I've found about this operation, they only mention the air-to-ground data link function of SADL for the Blk30/32's.
The Blk50/52 units did have it though.
