question about WSO-RIO

If you feel you absolutely must talk about cars, morality, or anything else not related to the F-16, do it here.

I read about their jobs on wiki and some I read by browsing through search engine.

As a non-airmen I'm currious about what kind of fighter jets in criteria that needs a RIO? For an instamce F-15E needs a RIO but the C version doesn't.

Could somebody explain about it.

TIA

F-15E, F/A-18F/G, and Su-34 are the only "fighters" I can think of right now that have a second crewmember.

F-16F and Su-30MKI also fit that, IMHO

The C version is air to air only. The E model is primarily a strike aircraft. The WSO controls the sensors and weapons release, freeing up the pilot to pay attention to avoiding threats.
