What I enjoyed most was the emotional authenticity that the cast conveyed in each of their roles. They were all very believable.
I agree on both accounts. That cast was just great and all of them really put themselves into it. All of that was definitely very well made and believable. I also liked the idea that there was an actual mission which was also quite believable. Of course it was not totally realistic in every possible way but for a movie it was very good IMO.

Have to put this awesome interview here:
It's with Frank "Walleye" Weisser, USN (Ret.) who flew the most demanding stuff and was also kind of stunt-double for Tom Cruise in scenes where the front-seater was filmed. He describes how the different flight scenes were done and a lot of other stuff.

LOL, now I'm getting bombed with Top Gun Maverick stuff on YouTube...
Anyway, here is another one which I also found enormously interesting and educational about air-to-ground part of it.
Former F-15E Strike Eagle Weapons Systems Officer "Pako" Benitez explains the attack mission in this movie. I'm getting even more impressed with some of the stuff they did in this movie and it's pity that they clearly had to cut some of the cool stuff probably to make it fit within 130 minutes of running time. I would've preferred they made it a 3 hour (or close to it) movie like Pearl Harbor.
