First F-35 CTOL weighed and moved for testing
January 8, 2006 (by
Jeff Hollenbeck) -
Another milestone was reached in the F-35 program when the first CTOL aircraft, AA-1, was hoisted into the air, weighed, and moved from one location in the factory to a new location approximately 100 yards away.
While the aircraft was originally scheduled to be weighed on Sunday with the move to be accomplished on Monday, the decision was made to move the aircraft on Sunday as all personnel needed for the operation were already present and there would be less of a disruption to the work in the factory.
Now at its new location, AA-1's control surfaces will be tested and checks will be made to ensure that the new Pratt and Whitney F-135 engine will fit properly when the time comes for permanent installation.
