Col. Bergeson to become 3rd WG/CC

Col. Thomas W. Bergeson will assume command of the 3rd Wing on Aug. 18, thus becoming the 100th commander at Elmendorf AFB.
Colonel Bergeson was recently deployed as the Chief of Aviation Division of Multi-National Forces Iraq from May 2007-May 2008.
Col. Richard Walberg became the 3rd Wing commander after the death of Brig. Gen. Thomas Tinsley July 27.
After the assumption of command, Colonel Walberg will serve as the vice commander of the 3rd Wing.
Colonel Bergeson received his commission in 1985 from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
He is a command pilot with more than 3,100 hours of flight time. He has flown the T-37, T-38, CF-18, F-15 and F-22 aircraft.
Colonel Bergeson was assigned to Langley AFB, Va., for more than three years serving as the as the commander of the 71st Fighter Squadron, commander of the 1st Operations Group and vice commander of the 1st Fighter Wing.
While assigned to the 71st FS, the squadron was the recipient of the Raytheon award for best air superiority squadron in the Air Force.
He was also assigned as the executive officer for the Air Combat Command commander from January 2003-February 2005.
He has served as an instructor pilot at the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB, Nev., and squadron and group commander at Langley AFB, Va.
