Cannon wins Colombian Trophy

April 17, 2004 (by Lieven Dewitte) - The 27th Fighter Wing, Cannon AFB, New Mexico, received the 2003 Colombian Trophy for best achievement in safety among all U.S. Air Force fighter and reconnaissance wings/groups.
F-16 units have won this prestigious award eight times in the last 13 years and the last four years in a row.

The 27th FW consists of four F-16 squadrons, the 522nd FS "Fireballs", the 523rd FS "Crusaders", the 524th FS "Hounds of Heaven" and the 428th FS "Buccaneers". The latter one is a hybrid US Air Force/Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) squadron.

The wing operates a wide variety of F-16s: Block 30/40/50 and the Singapore block 52 aircraft.
