Lockheed Martin testflies over Ardmore - Oklahoma

February 16, 2004 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, is testing new planes in Ardmore's airspace (Oklahoma) over the next few months and citizens may hear a few sonic booms.
They are getting ready to deliver a new-model F-16 to the Air Force, and prior to delivery, they run them through a testing phase. They will be test flying two to three a month, no nights and no Sundays. They have already started, and they should end in the March/April time frame.

When new versions are built, quite a bit of computer simulation is done to figure out how the aircraft will handle and perform and how they will do their missions.

However, you never really know for sure until you actually take it up and fly it. When they roll off a new model the initial flight-test activity does occur where the plane is being made.

After about a three-month period, the aircraft will go to Edwards Air Force Base in California, where it will complete its flight-test activity. That's where most of the Air force flight-test activity occurs.

Airplanes being tested over Ardmore will eventually be delivered to Israel, Singapore, Greece and the United Arab Emirates.
