SABCA will modernize Venezuelan F-16s

December 13, 2003 (by Lieven Dewitte) - The Belgian company SABCA (Societe Anonyme Belge de Constructions Aeronautiques) will be updating the 21 Venezulean F-16s.
SABCA has received a 45 million euro contract for updating the 21 remaining F-16s from Venezuela. The program is named 'Falcon Update'. It is going to start in 2004 and should be finished by 2006.

The order can continue because Ducroire/Delcredere, the Belgian leader in credit insurance, stands surety for the payment. The loss making SABCA receives about 45 million euro for the order.

The order is controversial since it is not excluded that president Chavez brings the hets into action against his political opponents.
