Belgian 31 "Tiger" sqn wins Silver Tiger Trophy for the 6th time.

June 18, 2003 (by s_ellebaut) - On June 8th, the last day of the 39th Tiger Meet, the Belgian 31st "Tiger" squadron received the Silver Tiger award. The best flying Trophy went to 230 squadron, while the Tiger Games were won by AG-51.
History
The NATO Tigers have been around since 1961 when the Association started with a meeting between three Squadrons: 74 (Fighter) Squadron, Royal Air Force, Escadron de Chase 1/12, Armee de l'Air and the 79th Tactical Fighter Squadron, United States Air Force. Most, but not all, of the NATO Tigers reside in Europe and the vast majority are part of NATO. The membership has changed over the years as new members applied and others got caught up in force reductions mostly following the end of the Cold War. The recent NATO expansion has enabled them to welcome a number of new members. They now have 28 squadrons with three membership categories which are largely dependent on the status of the Unit and the Nation they represent.

Tigermeet 2003
The aircrew arrivals took place on Monday in some very bad weather conditions. Nevertheless all planned participants arrived on time for the flag 'opening' ceremony that took place early on that evening. Before this opening ceremony all crews got briefed on the operational aspect of this Tiger Meet.

On Tuesday, the first missions of exercise 'Cambrésis 2003' were flown. Although weather conditions got worse later on the day the COMAO still took place.

During the evening the International evening took place, on which each squadron performed a NATO Tiger song especially written for this occasion. The best song will be used in the future as the NTA song. Also during the evening it was announced that 338 squadron from Norway was accepted as 'Full Member' within the Association.
