Evans & Sutherland receives order for F-16 Sensor Systems

May 14, 2000 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. announced that the company has received an order from Thomson Training and Simulation Ltd. for sensor systems to enhance six simulators for European F-16 Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) customers.
Under the terms of the contract, valued at over $4. 5 million, E&S will provide hardware to simulate the ATLANTIC navigation pod as well as the TV and infrared imagery of the LANTIRN targeting pod.

Evans & Sutherland will provide ESIG(r)-5530 image generators and dual infrared postprocessor (IRPP) hardware for each of the six systems. E&S has already provided out-the-window visual systems for the simulators as part of a previous contract.

The sensor simulation systems will allow realistic simulation of forward-looking-infrared (FLIR), radar, and TV images for realistic pilot training. In addition, E&S will provide some modifications to the large-area databases used for F-16 training. The first system will be installed at Lockheed-Martin facilities in Texas, and other systems will be installed in Belgium and The Netherlands.
