June 4, 2010 (by
A1C Alexandria Mosness) -
Airmen of the 20th Fighter Wing came together in Hangar 1200 here to welcome their new commander on June 4.
Colonel Charles Moore took command of the 20th FW from Col. Joseph Guastella at a ceremony officiated by Maj. Gen. William Holland, 9th Air Force commander.
"Thanks for being such a good host," said General Holland. "Colonel Guastella, you have done it all with style and grace. Today is a bittersweet day for you, but you are proud nonetheless, and today we have gathered in part to show appreciation. It is hard pressed to find men and women of this caliber as those in the 20th FW."
In his change of command speech, Colonel Guastella reiterated how grateful he was for the opportunity to be the commander of the 20th FW and also explained how being at Shaw was the assignment of his life.
The new 20th FW commander said he has come full circle since his first assignment at Shaw more than 18 years ago. The 20th FW "will meet any threat and Shaw will stand ready to defend America and freedom," Colonel Moore said.
"Thank you for your service and dedication to excellence, and the priorities will not change," the colonel added.
Colonel Moore was the vice director of operations, Headquarters, North American Aerospace Defense Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., before taking command here. Prior to that, he also served as the commander of the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group, Joint Base Balad, Iraq.
Colonel Guastella will become the director of program integration office at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
