November 17, 1997 (by Lieven Dewitte) - The U.S. commerce secretary Tuesday threw his weight behind Lockheed Martin's bid to supply the UAE and Saudi Arabia with warplanes, saying the U.S. aerospace industry accounted for 850, 000 jobs.
Washington is advocating on behalf of Lockheed Martin, which is one of three groups in a race to supply up to 80 strike jets to the United Arab Emirates, with its F-16.
