MALTS practice bomb carriers enter operational service with the RoNAF
October 10, 2008 (by
Lieven Dewitte) -
ITT Corporation completed delivery of 50 new-generation "MALTS" two-station practice bomb carriers for use on Royal Norwegian Air Force F-16s.
The $1.5 million contract with the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization also included a support and training package.
The MALTS (Modular Advanced Lightweight Training System), is a family of two, four, and six station carriers developed by ITT and is in-service with two additional European Air Force customers.
The MALTS employs easily maintained electro-magnetic release units that significantly reduce the maintenance and overall life- cycle costs when compared with pyrotechnic systems.
ITT has provided such equipment for a broad range of jet fighters including the F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, Typhoon, Tornado and Harrier. They are also developing the aircraft-armament system for the F-35 Lightning II.
ITT Integrated Structures serves three primary markets: aircraft-armament suspension and release equipment, electronic weapons interface systems, and advanced composite structures and subsystems for both military and commercial customers.
