Turkish F-16s leave tense Cyprus
June 18, 1998 (by
Lieven Dewitte) -
Three Turkish F-16 war planes left Cyprus on Friday after a one-day stay that has added to heightened tension on the divided island following a Greek air force visit earlier this week.
Witnesses said the three F-16s took off from a small Turkish Cypriot airport in Lefkoniko and circled before heading north towards Turkey.
