A team from the 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa Air Base began an investigation into why a USAF F-16 crashed in northern Japan on Thursday.
The F-16 crashed in a wooded area of Kamaishi, a city about 140 km (88 miles) south of Misawa, while on a routine training mission.
Luckily, the pilot survived the accident after ejecting. It was the second such accident in two days. On Wednesday, a Marine Corps FA-18 from the Iwakuni military base in southern Japan crashed into the Pacific Ocean near central Japan. The pilot was not injured.
