F-15 and F-16 midair collision

June 12, 2007 (by Jon Somerville) - An F-15C Eagle from Langley AFB, Virginia while on deployment to Eielson AFB collided in midair at 11.23h with an F-16C also on deployment from Nellis AFB, Nevada.

The pilot of the F-15 managed to eject safely while the F-16 was more fortunate and made a successful emergency landing.

The F-15 was from the 71st Fighter Squadron while the F-16 which was from the 64th Aggressor Squadron. Both aircraft were over the Pacific Alaska Range Complex about ninety miles east of Fairbanks, Alaska. Local Alaska Air National Guard rescued the Eagle driver who ejected over land and was quickly taken to a local hospital.

A board of officers has been dispatched and will investigate the mishap.
