Air Force still looking for submerged Shaw F-16 wreckage

Recovery efforts are continuing for the F-16 that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean last Wednesday night off the coast of Myrtle Beach. A Navy sonar ship out of Georgetown is trying to locate the site of the jet.
Rough seas forced the sonar experts to turn back on Sunday from the crash site about 35 miles southeast of Myrtle Beach. The recovery effort will continue this week.
The jet from Shaw Air Force Base is believed to be 84 feet below the ocean surface some 70 miles east-northeast of Charleston. It was loaded with about 800 gallons of fuel and three inert missiles and 520 projectile rounds of practice ammunition.
Once the site is found, divers will be sent to help bring the pieces up.
The search is on for the black box from the plane, which is considered classified information. It should also give more information about why the plane crashed.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
