Turkey attacks Kurdish rebel stronghold

More than 5, 000 troops backed by air power have begun an assault against Kurdish guerrillas in a mountain stronghold in eastern Turkey, security officials said on Thursday.
Two Super Cobra helicopters and a pair of F-16 jets from the Turkish Air Force fired rockets and bombed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) positions at the Kutuderesi ravine in Tunceli province, while other helicopters landed ground troops nearby.
