Shaw F-16s return safely after midair collision

March 10, 2004 (by Eric L. Palmer) - Two F-16 Fighting Falcons from Shaw Air Force Base landed safely yesterday after being involved in a midair collision over the Atlantic Ocean. The two pilots who were on a scheduled training mission returned uninjured to Shaw around 15.00h.
Both Viper drivers are assigned to the 79th Fighter Squadron at Shaw, home to the 20th Fighter Wing.

Tuesday's mishap, which will be probed by a board of officers, is the first midair collision involving Shaw jets in at least 10 years.

Fighters from Shaw (20th FW) as well as McEntire Air National Guard Station (169th FW) routinely train over the Atlantic.
