I became a blue suiter in March of 1979 and completed my service in August of 1992. In that time I worked a variety of aircraft. From 79-81 I was stationed at Pease AFB working FB-111A's. From there I went to Kadena AB assigned to the Transient alert crew. (Got lots a time on a slew of different aircraft). I then ended up at Luke AFB were I was assigned DCC duties in the 310th on #79-0082 (B-Model).

Got my first ride in her with the DCM going to a ceremony at DAVIS-MONTHAM. I then went to Hahn AB. In the 496th, assigned to #84-1317, I named her "CLASSY CHASSIS" and from there I went to my favourite assignment, NELLIS AFB assigned to the 64 AGGRESSORS.

But when DESERT STORM came along, I couldn't get deployed, I even volunteered to take any assignment they could give me to go, but to no avail. So when they offered me an early out I took it. (I felt like I was a first stringer and they bench me when the big game came along).

I still wouldn't trade anything for the experience of my time in, all the friends, all the travel and experiences, but mostly the comradery of each unit.

Current or Favourite assignment

There's just something about the AGGRESSORS that gets into your blood. Maybe it's the "BAD BOY" image of being the bad guys. I think perhaps it's the paint schemes and that you got noticed everywhere you went as a stand out. But the aircrews were amazing air-air pilots, (That's how they got this assignment) but mostly it was the people, of course that's true in any unit, but I think we were particularly blessed with some of the best.

Also, all the TDYs were nice too.

Deployments

From Hahn, we went at least twice a year, either to THE LIK, or Zaragosa. but we had one deployment (classified at the time of deployment) to Israel, That was by far my favorite deployment, Although our pilots were humbled drastically by the Israeli pilots. the facilities were amazing. We also took a three day weekend to do a little travelling.

We re-enlisted CMSgt Paul Killian while we were there (Big ceremony) he also had a birthday while we were there and a bunch of us spelled out "happy birthday" on our butts and mooned him. As I recall my cheeks were the Y and blank space.

I took delivery of this lady at Hahn in early 1986. Gave her the name "CLASSY CHASSIS" My pilot and I were working on getting nose art worked up for approval when USAFE decided that nose art was no longer allowed, so we put it inside the com door. I had bought a helmet liner for my old steel pot, (didn't want the new Kevlar) and had wrote "BORN TO CREW" on the side, in the spirit of the movie "FULL METAL JACKET"

"ONCE AN AGGRESOR, ALWAYS AN AGGRESOR" "AGGRESOR CREW CHIEFS EAT THEIR DEAD" "HEAVEN WONT TAKE US, AND HELL'S AFRAID WE'LL TAKE OVER" Gave this lovely lady the name "THE OTHER WOMAN" Cuz I spent more time with her than the wife, probably why she's an ex-wife.

I remember you Tim. You and me and Randy Lewis would have a few drinks during the TDY's to Zaragosa. I have Randy's e-mail if you want it. I think I spilled a beer on your pregnant wife back in 1986-87. -Al Jones

Dude, my very first day at Hahn AB I get my room and I'm walking down the hall in my dorm. I hear someone start yelling "hey mickey," of course i don't turn around because my name is not Mickey. But I am wearing a Mickey mouse "T" shirt. So, I hear it again turn around and say my name is Joe. You said welcome to Hahn your name is "Mickey." You then took me to the dolly bar, got me polluted, bad, really bad, it took me about 2 hours to stager home and find the right dorm and room. It is a day that I will never forget. Thanks Tim.

We had 1317 flying on a black letter initial for a while at Hahn until it was made the CANN jet.

Hope all is well. I sort of remember the wine fests in Traben-Trabach and TDY's to Zaragoza and "The Lik". give me a yell so we can try and get our stories correct. Got an old weapons guy from Orange Section flying in for a visit today, stories will be flowing with beer later. Stay safe old pal.
