Currently working as an Air Technician (ie crew chief) with IANG. Never thought I would still be crewing jets after 23+ years in the AF.

At the time we had the oldest jets in the fleet. My first jet, 0089 (block 10, B model), the right LEF underwing caught on fire during a maintenance run on dayshift. The crew chief running it turned on SMS (wasn't suppose to), and the weapons sys wiring harness caught fire. It was put out by an Avionics specialist. The entire wiring harness in the LEF was charred. Worked with a great bunch of people at the 311th.

During a night fly mission, a 13th FS (I believe) block 30 took off and crashed on base by the 'elephant cage' near the edge of the base lake on Misawa. It was a huge fireball, full of gas and had tanks. The pilot got out all right. The fuel s/o closed inadvertantly. We started safety wiring those open not long after that.

Currently 87-0225 (block 30) is my aircraft, it came from Hill and is my 3rd aircraft since I have been here. I also crewed 88-0545 (block 42) and 89-2025 (block 42) since I have been in the Air Guard. |
