Final assembly of the first YF-22 prototype begins in California. Unveiled to the public at the Lockheed Martin plant 10, California on August 28, 1990. Flew for the first time on September 29, 1990 with Dave Ferguson as the pilot.

While being delivered to the USAF Museum, the aircraft made a stop at the Nellis AFB, Nevada air show running from April 24th to the 27th, 1997 wearing a fake FY number 86-022. Arrived at museum and restored for display by March 1998.
