Op 30 mei 1979 was de eerste vlucht van een Nederlandse F-16, de J-259. Op 30 mei volgt de eerste door Fokker gebouwde F-16, de J-212. Op 6 juni 1979 was de acceptatievlucht van beide en werden ze overgedragen aan de luchtmacht
