Maj. Gen. Daniel J. Darnell is Director, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. The directorate is the liaison between the Air Force and Congress on issues such as legislative and constituent inquiries, programs and weapons systems.



General Darnell earned a bachelor's degree in history from the Virginia Military Institute, and received his commission after completing the Air Force ROTC program as a distinguished graduate. He was equally honored after completing undergraduate pilot training, and has commanded at the flight, squadron, group and wing levels. The general has served on the Joint Staff, and was the commander and leader of the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds.



General Darnell has flown combat missions in Iraq, enforcing no-fly zones during operations Northern and Southern Watch. In 2003, he was the Senior Director of the Combined Air Operations Center at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, during the opening weeks and months of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a command pilot with more than 4,500 flying hours, primarily in the F-15A/B/C/D and F-16C/D.
