100th FS to be reactivated to fly F-16

An old name and a famous paint scheme is returning to the skies above central Alabama. The commanding general of the Air Force is reactivating the 100th FS as part of Montgomery's 187th ANG Wing.

122 Fighter Wing deploys to Iraq

200 members of the 122nd Fighter Wing left Fort Wayne yesterday to take part in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), which provides training for all Belgian Air Force F-16 pilots, and which is stationed at Kleine Brogel, arranged an air-squadron on Thursday afternoon.
The F-16s from the 4th Fighter Squadron "Fightin' Fuujins" will be the first in the wing to deploy with new technology and with Reservists by their side.
An Alabama Air National Guard fighter squadron out of Montgomery has deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle.
The last of the 419th Fighter Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft left on June 28, signifying an end of an era and a beginning of another for the unit.
Pilots assigned to the 35th Fighter Squadron completed a week and a half of dropping live ordnance July 3 on a Japanese bombing range in an effort to refine their war-time skills.
After being away for years, the 555th Fighter Squadron reunited with the 8th Fighter Wing's "Wolf Pack" during the squadron's deployment to Kunsan Air Base.
Spangdahlem's runway closed today and is scheduled to remain closed for repairs until mid-July. Although the 52nd FW will cease flying operations from Spangdahlem, do not expect pilots and crews from the Wing to take a break.

For the final time, the F-16s of the Virginia ANG made their last operational flights bringing to an end a long history of flying aircraft in Richmond, Virginia.

440th Airlift Wing Moves to Pope AFB

After more than 50 years in Milwaukee the 440th Airlift Wing officially moved back to Pope AFB in North Carolina.
Members of the 8th Fighter Wing and the Republic of Korea air force have teamed up for a joint training exercise June 8 at Kunsan Air Base.
Two F-16CJs track a pair of vehicles full of known Al Qaeda insurgents. The vehicles stop at a location free of collateral damage, and command makes the decision. The fighters drop precision guided munitions and destroy the vehicles.
The term "joint operations" in todays military is thought of American service members carrying out missions with service members from different branches of the U.S. military or coalition partners working together.
