Greek rumors: potential F-16 order

In order to counter the expansion of the Turkish Air Force, which will field about 240F-16C/D aircraft by the turn of the century, the Hellenic AF is looking for up to 60 additional fighter aircraft.

USAF Air Expeditionary Force Returns Home

A US Air Force air expeditionary force, which included 20 F-15 andF-16 fighters that deployed to Bahrain last month to help police the no-fly zone over southern Iraq has returned to Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

Singapore Plans To Purchase 12 F-16s

The U.S. Department of State has notified Congress that Singapore intends to purchase another 12 new production F-16C/Daircraft, thus bringing their total to 32.

Dutch Buy LANTIRN For F-16s

Lockheed Martin Electronics and Missiles has received a $31. 6million contract to integrate 10 low-altitude navigation and targeting infrared for night pods for Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 Mid-Life Update aircraft.
The Department of Defense announced the possible sale to the Government of the Netherlands of basic F-16 pilot training in the Continental United States (CONUS).
Frank De Winne, test pilot with the Belgian Air Force, became the first non-American to receive the Joe Bill Dryden Semper Viper Award.
A U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin team recently completed a series of F-16flight tests demonstrating the potential benefits of using appliques instead of paint on military aircraft.

Torrejon Air Base in to close

The secretary of defense announced Oct. 21 that the Department of Defense will end its permanent presence at Torrejon Air Base, Spain.
Singapore and Australia are taking part in a joint annual air force exercise from October 10-24. Some 400 officers from Singapore will take part in the exercise, codenamed exercise Pitchblack.

Elbit wins LMTAS contract

The U.S. subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd. has been awarded a contract to develop a data entry electronics system for the F-16 fighter jet. The order, won by Elbit's wholly-owned EFW Inc subsidiary, is expected to be worth $8 million.
President Bill Clinton has given Congress notice that he intends to grant Argentina major non-NATO military ally status on his trip to South America next week.

Possible sale of AMRAAM's to Turkey

The U.S. Department of Defense announced today the possible sale to The Government of Turkey of 138 AIM-120Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), 120 LAU-129A/Alaunchers, containers, spare and repair parts, and other related elements of logistics and program support.

Possible Sale Of AMRAAM's To Greece

The Government of Greece has requested a possible sale of 90 AIM-120Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), missile containers, and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated cost is $42 million. These additional missile systems will augment Greece's previous procurement of 150 AMRAAMs as well as enhance aircraft air-to-air capabilities. The principal contractors will be Hughes Aircraft International Services Co., Tucson, Ariz. and Raytheon Co., Bedford, Mass.

Taiwan F-16 deployment

Taiwan is due to deploy its first operational squadron of Lockheed Martin F-16 Mid-Life Update fighters this month, military sources in Taipei have revealed. Twenty-four of 150 aircraft on order have reportedly been delivered.
