Orbital Sciences Corporation's Fairchild Defense division is to provide an advanced version of its mass memory and data transfer equipment for the F-16 Block 60 fighter aircraft that were recently approved for sale by the US to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Orbital's onboard avionics will include terrain-referenced navigation and ground collision avoidance systems, as well as the company's state-of-the-art solid-state video recording capabilities. The contract from Lockheed Martin Corporation is valued in excess of $26 million.
The United Arab Emirates has chosen Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems-Akron's F-16 Block 60 Training System, a deal valued at $50 million over seven years.
Lockheed Martin said on Friday that Thailand will buy 16 of its F-16 fighter planes.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is getting 20 new F-16 fighters from the United States for a start in its bid to replace its aging A-4 Super Skyhawks, local TV Channel News Asia said in its broadcast Friday.
The U.S. government is expected to offer Hungary several used F-16 fighter planes withdrawn from service, as an alternative to the planned upgrade of Russian-built MiG-29 fighters.

June 22, 2000 Bahrain received the first of its new production F-16 aircraft today in ceremonies at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company.
Elbit Systems Ltd. announced that Vision Systems International LLC ("VSI") of San Jose, California, jointly-owned by EFW Inc., Elbit Systems' subsidiary of Fort Worth, Texas, and by Kaiser Aerospace and Electronics Company of Foster City, California, has been awarded a contract from the Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) for Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems.
Lockheed Martin Corp., Fort Worth, Texas, is being awarded a $24, 783, 000 modification to a firm-fixed-price contract to provide for incorporation of new capabilities and enhancements into the development effort for the Operational Flight Program Tape 4 for the F-16 aircraft. This effort supports foreign military sales to Taiwan. Expected contract completion date is Sept. 30, 2003.

Taiwan Buying U.S. Weapons Systems

The Pentagon on Wednesday announced sales of two weapons systems to Taiwan designed to improve the defensive and navigation capabilities of its F-16 fighters.
The Government of Greece has announced its selection of Pratt & Whitney's F100-PW-229 engine as the propulsion system for its new procurement of 50 Lockheed Martin F-16 aircraft. With the Greek government as a customer, there are now 20 countries internationally using the F100 engine, in addition to the U.S. Air Force.
The Boeing Company has received an $8. 2 million foreign military sales contract from the U.S. Air Force to integrate the Joint Direct Attack Munition on Israeli F-16 Peace Marble II & III aircraft. This contract marks the first international sale of JDAM. Boeing will deliver and integrate JDAM test kits for Mk-84, 2, 000-pound warheads onto the F-16. A production contract for an unspecified number of JDAM kits is expected later this year.
Northrop Grumman has announced the launch of a major upgrade to its fire control radar system for the Lockheed Martin F-16 C/D fighter aircraft.
The U.S. Air Force recently extended the phase maintenance interval for its fleet of more than 600 Block 40/42/50/52 F-16C/Ds, indicating increasing reliability of the aircraft as the fleet matures.
