November 10, 2011 (by Bjorn Claes) - On November 10th, 2011 Belgian 350(F) Sqn based at Florennes AB celebrated its 70th anniversary.
BAF F-16AM #FA-68 from 350 sqn is parked with opened canopy in a static display at Florennes AB on November 12th, 2011 to show its new tail scheme for the 70th anniversary of the squadron to the press.
The squadron was established on November 10th, 1941 within the Royal Air Force. It first participated in the Battle of Britain. After WWII the squadron was moved into the organisation of the newly born Belgian Air Force. There it played an important role in NATO
deterrance during the Cold War, performing mainly air defence missions from Beauvechain/Bevekom AB and therefor providing security of the national and NATO territory.
Today the squadron is equiped with F-16 fighters carrying precision munitions of the latest generation.
The squadron has been operating in recent conflicts over the Balkan (1990's), Afghanistan (2000's) and more recently Libya (2011). This allowed the squadron to improve the knowledge and professionalism in a multinational environment.
To commemorate this special event a number of festivities are planned between November 11th and 13th. A new book about the history of 350 Sqn is also presented then.
