The F-16 landed safely and the airport remained open. Ground crew noticed damage to the plane after it landed at about 14:00h local time. There's no immediate word on the extent of the damage to the plane or the landing light system.
The plane was returning to the airport after a training mission. A board of investigation will look into the incident.
A similar incident occurred back in April 2005 in which #83-1159
also with 134 FS
at the time came in low during landing and struck runway lights causing the main landing gear to collapse.
Colonel Douglas Fick stayed with the aircraft and was uninjured. The landing happened in severe weather conditions which made the pilot abort two landing attempts. Attempting a third, he came in too low and struck the lights..
