Jordan to acquire more Belgian F-16s

January 10, 2009 (by Bjorn Claes) - After Belgium sold Jordan 16 F-16 fighters last year, it seems that another deal for 9 more aircraft can be expected soon.

Belgian Minister of Defence has confirmed that Belgium is in negotiations with Jordan to sell an additional 9 F-16s to the country. These aircraft are still in service with the Belgian Air Force, but are redundant in view of the strategic defence plan of 2003 which stated that by 2015 Belgium would retain only 60 F-16s in operational service.

This sale adds to an order of 16 F-16s that Jordan acquired over the past years and which are still being delivered.

The 9 aircraft in this sale will probably be kept operational until they can be delivered to Jordan straight away. This avoids putting them in short-term storage with all costs concerned.
