Northrop Grumman awarded contract for Belgian ALQ-131 systems

July 19, 1999 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Northrop Grumman has been awarded an $8. 5 million contract by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to provide 11 AN/ALQ-131 Block II conversion kits to the Belgian Air Force (BAF). The contract includes in-country installation and support.

The award was made under the Air Force Security Assistance Center's (AFSAC)Parts and Repair Ordering System (PROS) contract for Foreign Military Sales (FMS). The AN/ALQ-131 is an airborne defensive electronic countermeasures system for surface-to-air and air-to-air radar threats. With more than 1, 350 systems delivered to the U.S. Air Force and the air forces of 11 allied nations, the AN/ALQ-131 remains one the most widely used jammers in the world. The AN/ALQ-131is certified on the F-16, F-111, A-10, F-4, F-15 and C-130 aircraft.

"The AN/ALQ-131 Block II conversion provides improved performance, reliability and maintainability and offers international customers with a cost-effective method to ensure compatibility with the U.S. Air Force, " said Bill Ober, vice president of RF Electronic Warfare Programs at Northrop Grumman's Defensive Systems Division in Rolling Meadows, Ill.
