February 10, 2006 (by Lieven Dewitte) - An F-16 jet fighter made an emergency landing at Hulman Field around 16.00h Thursday at Terre Haute International Airport-Hulman Field.
USAF F-16C block 25 #84-1301 of the 113th TFS is ventilating its cockpit after a training sortie.
The jet, which belongs to the 181st Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard, landed safely and without incident.
The pilot was about 25 miles away from the landing strip when he called the approach tower with a concern of "trapped fuel."
Officers on duty at the approach tower then instituted emergency procedures, which includes sounding sirens at the air field and ringing "crash phones" at the 181st, alerting the airport's emergency fire department.
The Terre Haute Fire Department also was alerted and put on notice, but units were not dispatched to the scene.
