Homestead F-16 pilot dies in crash at Avon Park Range

September 15, 1998 (by Lieven Dewitte) - An Air Force Reserve Command F-16D crashed Sept. 12 at Avon Park Range, about 50 miles south of Orlando, killing the pilot, Capt. Thomas Carr.
A traditional reservist with Homestead's 482nd Fighter Wing, Carr was participating in a four-ship gunnery mission at the time of the accident. In civilian life, Carr was an American Airlines pilot.

The aircraft was on loan to the 482nd FW from the Reserve's 944th FW, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. No one was in the back seat of the aircraft. A board of officers will investigate the accident.
