Lt. Colonel (Retired) Frank L. Ott, II, age 50, of Niceville, Fla., passed away April 23, 2009. Frank was born on October 22, 1958 in Magnolia, Miss., to Frank Ott Sr. and Bobbie Bacon Ott. He grew up in Osyka, Miss.

Frank graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1980. Frank served his country honorably as a highly decorated Air Force officer and F-16 Fighter Pilot for 25 years. Lt. Colonel Ott's distinguished service and valor in combat earned, among others, two Air Medals, an Aerial Achievement Medal, Purple Heart, six Meritorious Service Medals, and National Defense Service Medal.

Frank transitioned to a career with Delta Airlines, where he flew 767 and MD-88 aircraft. Frank earned a black belt in karate and was a fourth degree knight for the Knights of Columbus.

Frank will be remembered for his Christian faith that touched the lives of many, his leadership and enthusiasm as a professional aviator, the bonds of lasting friendships he developed, and the strength of enduring love that united his family. Frank is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen Ott, daughter Joanna Ott and fianc? Capt. Dan Hendrix, son John Jacob Ott, mother Bobbie Bacon Ott, brother Maj. Karl E. Ott of Tampa, and sister Robin Ott of Atlanta, Georgia.

A Wake service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church in Niceville, FL. Wake service commences at 1:00pm, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00pm, led by the Reverend Father Roy C. Marien.

A Military Burial Service will be at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Col. on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be sent to the Building Fund for Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church, 1028 White Point Road, Niceville, Fla., 32578. It is not overlooked by this American individual, mother, Christian and Patriot. I know where our freedom comes from and the price paid.

Wonderful guy and friend while we we were flying missions in SWA long ago…a great person, fighter pilot and I didn’t know …I’m sorry
