In regard to the Aggressor squadron due to stand up at Eielson AFB, AK I have found this article;
http://www.eielson.af.mil/library/news/ ... g.%204.pdf
It mentions that the Aggressor aircraft will be Block-30 ("Big Inlet") F-16s coming from the 80th FS / 8th FW at Kunsan AB, Korea, in turn taking over the current Block-40s operated by the 18th FS at Eielson in the 354th FW.
There is still a lot of speculation regarding these future Aggressor F-16s at Eielson and my personal thought in this matter is that I would not expect these Block-30s from Kunsan to be the ones to relocate to Eielson!!
Greetings,
Henrik. |

ANG changes;
Although listed and operated by the ANG the 162nd FW at Tucson IAP provides valuable training for F-16 crews - not only from the USAF, but for air forces from all over the world.
The 162nd FW is not represented in the BRAC listings but will gain further F-16s due to the BRAC.
The 162nd FW line-up is as follows;
148th FS: F-16A/B/E/F. This squadron operates Block-10/15/15ADFs for foreign pilot training and also houses the Block-60 "Desert Falcons" of the UAE training detachment.
152nd FS: Operates F-16C/D Block-25/42s.
195th FS: Currently operates Block-15/15ADFs but will retire all those aircraft to AMARC and gain Block-25s from ANG units in California and New Jersey as well as additional Block-25s from Luke AFB, AZ and Block-32s (ex-Aggressors) from Nellis AFB, NV.
Also operated as part of the 162nd FW is the AACT - Air National Guard/AFRC Test Center which operates six Block-25s on various test- and evaluation programs associated with upgrades and new systems for the ANG/AFRC.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

About the 178th...
I've heard a few mixed reports about the unit. I know that most there feel that the Dutch FTU is all but certain. I also know that Representative Hobson is figthing very hard to keep a USAF flying mission there. He did an outstanding job turning around BRAC decisions at WPAFB and many new jobs are headed to the Dayton area, hopefully he can convince Congress that the 178th needs to be saved. The 162nd FS has a LOT of history and it would be very sad to see it go. My gut feeling after talking to pilots there, and follwing BRAC-realted developments in the area is that the number of F-16s will do nothing but grow at Springfield when it is all said and done... but that's just my optimistic opinion. |

Thanks again Wombat!!
I also hope they will stay in the Viper business. I had the fantastic opportunity to see, hear and feel the "Yoxford Boys" on a deployment to Denmark in 1995 before they got a training unit - great out-fit!!.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Their last Block 10 left in late 2004, Henrik, and I don't "think" the 148th flies anything other than the block 60, but that I'm not sure about.
There are also very, very few ADFs left with the wing. All but one or two of the A ADFs are gone, but there are a few remaining B ADFs.
Also don't forget about AATC. They have 6 block 25s. |

Thanks a lot, Jake . I think You are right, too, about the 148th FS flying Block-60s exclusively.
From what I can see there should be 61 Vipers in total at Tuscon.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Hello all,
Not directly related to the BRAC, but non the less interesting, as it affects one of the bases on the BRAC closure list, I found this on the Scramble.nl web site;
Next year the KLu 306 squadron will go to Springfield, OH to train the RNLAF pilots. In a few weeks a contract will probably signed, for 5 years.
Because the ANG will leave in 2010 there are signs that the RNLAF, RDAF and the RNAF will open a training center then on that base.
There will be going 6 F-16BM's and 8 F-16AM's to the states.
Maintenance will be maintained by the Americans.
Quite interesting.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

[Link pending approval] job on trying to sort this whole thing out. I am a first timer, (just register in fact), but have been reading many a comments.
Regarding comments about the 147th here in Houston, (Ellington Field). The F-16C/D-25s have been given a "stay of execution" until at least FY08, possibly FY11. The unit was designated as one of the 5 ANG UAV operators, but there is a snag in the program and this has caused a delay.
Ellington is also reorganizing into an Armed Forces Reserve / Battle-Force Projection Center. A new AFRC is to be built, (phase 1 is already underway), and will house Army Reserve (75th Div Training), Navy Reserve, USMCR, ANG, and ArNG units. Also, the Coast Guard Air Station is to be enhanced & expanded.
Have heard many rumors about what will happen; everything from F-16s staying; to F-15s coming in; to JCAs arriving. What is known is that the 147th will have both "manned" & "unmanned" flying missions. Don't expect any of this to be sorted out before 2010. I agree with your comments, blk25 airframes will have to hang around a little longer, 2011-2015.
In related [Link pending approval] 149FW / Lackland AFB will receive only 3 additional blk30 airframes, not 6 as recommended by BRAC05. They currently have 18 and this addition will boost them to 21PAA.
All for [Link pending approval] keep up the good work Henrik, (excellent reading!!)[/b] |

Hello rjsmith,
WELCOME ABOARD!! And thanks for Your very informative mail!! It sounds very interesting and exiting about the 147th staying in the Viper business a bit longer.
Is there any information about these three F-16s going to the 149th FW - from where they are coming, when and so on??
Many more thanks and greetings,
Henrik.
As a personal note I will expect the Block-25/32 units to be in the same AEF in the future;
147th FW / 111th FS, Ellington Field, TX. Block-25.
148th FW / 179th FS, Duluth Apt., MN. Block-25
158th FW / 134th FS Burlington IAP, VT. Block-25.
144th FW / 194th FS Fresno ANGB, CA. Block-32. |

Good Day Henrik! ...or rather Good Evening!! Many thanks for the warm welcome.
I have not heard anything other than the 149th should see these additions in FY07 or [Link pending approval] a clue as to their origin. We are only talking about 3 additions, so it will really depend on just how much of the BRAC recommendation is accomplished and how quickly. I am a member of the US Air Force & National Guard Associations, and I must say this whole thing is becoming a major issue. It all looks fine on paper, but when you start adding changes to infrastructure, new missions, training, new [Link pending approval] cost adds up!!
I have heard through the "grapevine" that alot of the changes are being delayed or "slowed" until after the mid-term elections. A friend in North Dakota explained this was the reason given for the delay in fielding the C-21s. They will get 2, the balance to be delivered sometime after the elections. |
