Since everyone is throwing in the rides they've gotten I'll mention mine. One F-15C ride out for Vegas and about every cargo plane known to man. Including the Russian AN-124 on my trip to malaysia |

Thanks....nice to know, I am still hanging around the squadron at least in spirit these days. I will be visiting in Feb (mid month)...I'll stop by and say "hello" if your around and not deployed.
Did you doubt me? In my opinion, it was my best squadron ever....even over the T-birds
Glad to hear from ya - Drink a pint for me...alright |

Well let's see:
1980 - 1984 Active Duty at Sheppard as an instructor. How did that happen? I enlisted with an A&P and had been working a/c for a number of years and Reagan had his buildup going and they needed instructors fast. Then in 1984 when I went to get my next assignment they told me I wasn't getting one and they were going to put me on another four year controlled at SAFB. No choice - do it or don't reup. No way could I do another four in ATC. So away I went to the ANG.
Also worked civ job at SAFB doing T/A for most of the time I was there.
1985-1987 - 140th FW working A-7D's. No cool deployments just run of the mill Guard stuff.
1987 - Did about six months with the 110th TASG working A-37's. That was cool because they allowed crew chiefs to taxi the jets.
1987-1991 - 192nd FW working A-7D's and a deployment to Evenes Norway and living in tent city north of the arctic circle.
1991-1993 - 192nd FW working Blk 30 -16's. We were transitioning from A-7's right when Desert Storm happened and went C3 about three days after war ended. Other deployments were run of the mill Guard trips.
1993 - Current - 181st FW Blk 25's for a few years and then Blk 30's the rest. I crew the last smallmouth made.
With the 181st I've been a few places.
ONW in 2001 to Incirlik
ONW in Jan 2003 to Apr 2003 to Incirlik where we flew the last ONW combat missions just hours before OIF broke out. Many of the missions were preliminary OIF missions but we didn't know it at the time. Then we (joking but effectively true) became political hostages of the Turkish government.
May 2003 to May 2004 I did an active duty ANG tour in the F-22 SPO
Aug to Oct 2006 unit deployed to Kadena in the first ever ANG AEF to PACAF
For the past year I've been Flightline Expediter (which is unusual duty for a Traditional in the ANG) and we are in the process of losing our flying mission.
Where do I go from here? Well I'm not retiring yet that's for sure. And I sure am not thrilled with going into intel in our new DCGS which is our new mission. And I'm too old for the other mission which is ASOS.
Anyone need a slightly worn MSgt 2A373B? |
