What´s your source, Henrik? Is it "Shock and Awe" from Twobobs? If yes, who many other OIF F-16s are verified by serial numbers? Probably I will also buy this book, but in German slang: "Ich will nicht die Katze im Sack kaufen". Wink

Ohhhh, good one J.J Thumb .

Actually I have been subscribing to a British magazine called "Military Aviation Review"/MAR that only concentrates on base visits/serial tie-ups and so on. Allthough most part of the magazine concentrates on European operations a seperate section concentrates on US military.

During the build-up to OIF (and ONW/OSW earlier) some spotters took up residence at Lajes Field, Moron AB among other places to verify the serials of the deploying aircraft that went through to and from their deployed locations and regarding these serials this is my main source.

I need to double-check when I get home just to be 100%!!

Greetings,

Henrik.

Very Cool , Henrik. For OEF and OIF I also checked out some leading European aircraft spotter websites. These people are very helpful. Would you tell me a little bit more about "Shock and Awe" from "Twobobs"? According to some of your past replies, I´m sure you have this book.

Yes, J.J., my "Viper" wife bought it for me. I am very pleased with it. As said earlier a lot of previously unpublished material concerning all plane types from this conflict. Many close-ups of nose art, mission marks and other details. Right now, however, I am eagerly waiting for the Osprey book about the F-16 units in OIF................Setve Davies???? Not Worthy

LOL, thats just the deployment man....remember when CNN would broadcast that the B-52s had taken off from their bases on missions, and whether they had anything hanging under the wings?

CNN also published a complete OOB for the allied forces before OIF....which they got from CENTCOM for sure. At leats they aren't scratching targeting tactics in the sand on live TV!!

J.J., it is not unrealistic that the 20 FW deployed 14 aircraft - at least some F-16s from the 77 FS were at Incirlick AB together with the "MI", "SD" and "TH" Guard F-16s, however, "only" for the ONW as they did not get the chance to play the OIF.

Note: OIF combat actions of the 524th EFS would be part of another chapter. And please remember: I would be very grateful for any support from involved people! Anyone who can and will tell me the name of the deployed 524th FS commander? And anyone who will verify the remaining two serial numbers?

The two ser #'s you are missing are 88-0429 and 88-0510

Hello J.J.,

The 14 FS are the "Fightin´Samurai" - or mostly known as the "Samurais". You are right, the FY 92 F-16 must be borrowed as most of the 14 FS inventory are FY 90 Vipers - the former 4 FS/388 FW Block-50s. However, the serial is not complete the last digit is missing Big No No . J.J., as far as I am concerned the 14 FS, as well as the 13 FS that also deployed, brought 12 A/C each to the Gulf region. I am at work again, so i DO NOT HAVE MY "data base" with me, but I belive they both took half a squadron along to "play".

OIF was actually the first war where all US Block-50/52 units were present at the same time!!

It was 14th FS personnel with 13th FS jets at PSAB. I dunno about the total number of the a/c deployed but I can get back at you on this one, JJ. Dont let any of the pics confuse you, they painted a yellow tail flash on one of the jets (I think it was -886) in order to make it look like a 14th jet. I can provide some pics if you want. let me know.

here's a pic of 92-886 (13th jet) from PSAB. please refrain from publicizing that pic without further consulting with me cause that pic isnt mine and I'd have to get back at the person I got it from and ask for permission. I'd post some more pics but I gotta get back at him first and ask for permission.

photo copyright by "Grab".

Grab, if you read this just get at me at robviper@gmail.com . I've tried to get in touch with you but I somehow lost your email address --Rob

does anyone in here know Grab (he's with the Thunderbirds now)? anyone at nellis?? if you need to know his full name pm me. I need to get in touch with him.

Hello all,

Thanks for all this great info/pics, really great!!

I have been searching my records and, J.J., it seems that also 85-1467 "TX" went to the Gulf region. It is, however, unclear to me if 467 should go instead of 553 or they both went along with 449 as You mentioned. I saw a pic in a "Code One" magazine of 449 "bombed up" at a base in the region, so 449 should be pretty sure.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Additional 13 FS jets in the Gulf were:

91-0423
92-3893
92-3894

Furthermore I saw a pic from PSAB ("Shock and Awe") where at least 16 "WW"s are visible. However only two serials are shown; 91-0399 and 92-3886.

Greetings,

Henrik.
