To rickster25: The 194th FS, 144th FW (California ANG) never deployed Vipers for OIF (and probably also no personnel as part of any ANG F-16 "Rainbow Team"). According to their public website, the 144th FW's mission is to provide air defense protection for California from the Mexican border to Oregon utilizing the F-16C. The 144th FW also supports the nation's Counter Drug Program and responds to state emergencies when requested by the Governor of California. The 144th OG is home to the 194th FS and the 144th Operations Support Flight which directly support the Air Sovereignty Alert mission and daily flying training in the F-16C. To Asif: Thanks a lot for uploading the private 13th FS photos taken at PSAB in early 2003! And please remember: Just before OIF started, all six AFRC Vipers (verified by a private first-hand source) were tactically relocated from PSAB and assigned to the 410th AEW at Shahid Muafaq Al-Salti Air Base near Azraq, Jordan - called Azraq AB by U.S. CENTAF. At Azraq AB they joined 30 ANG Vipers (verified by the same source), which were deployed especially for OIF (see page 9 of this topic). The 410th AEW primary supported "Scud-Hunting" in western Iraq and other Coalition SOF missions on the "Western Front". |

| I just went back through this thread, incredible. I was a SSgt then, MSgt now. I've since switched airframes to the F-35 yet all of these memories came back, with time comes clarity I suppose. I caught Detroit after that CAS mission, he was emotionally wrecked that day. We still talk every now and then and will both always remember that day. Thankfully I have been able to stay in contact with most of the Samurai from that era. They were the best I ever worked with, amazing squadron. One last memory- the bomb stencils - three of us had to haul a$$ to Al Jaber to change a throttle cable on one of our jets (snapped!). We were in the 524's hooch waiting for Sam Mann to step and started rooting through drawers and cabinets for cool stuff to liberate(it's war!). Lo and behold I wandered upon about 100 stacks of bomb stencils, cbu's, jdams, and mavs. We took all but one. Cut the harm stencils out of the borders and our jets were all set. Great memories |
