I actually am a "Det-Weenie" out here in VA. I've got to say the info out there about our role in 9-11 is pretty inaccurate. That Painting is really cool, I didn't know they were available on the web. The same artist did another painting of the NYANG F-15's that scrambled over NY. To further the ThreadJacking, and please the AIM-7 fan here's a pretty cool pic:

Thats a great pic! Thumb
Didnt think the sparrow was still in use. I've only seen them on only the Hooligan vipers. Does it have to do with them being ADF's?

They haven't been used for a while now, and the ADF's are as far as I know the last a/c in the fleet that can fire them.

NYANG flies F-16s, not 15s (probably just a Typo Wink). the 174th had a pretty big part in 9-11. Some of their guys were sent to shoot down the airplane that crashed in PA, others were sent on CAP for NYC, others flew elsewhere. I posted a fuller version a while ago under everyone's 9-11 stories.

You're right, I didn't mean Syracuse. It was the Massachusetts ANG who responded.

Actually I can think of some other names for DET ****s! That's OK, I can say that--I used to be one! I know who the primaries from this last round are--but don't know who the alternates are. If you feel like it PM me and let me know who you are--the primary UPT selectee out there will know who I am!

I'm surprised how quickly info/rumors spread! Not really--but at least the C-130/LCA thing SHOULD be more than a little more concrete!

As far as 911 goes, I was one of the CCs that launched the aircraft that day--the second most screwed up day in my life! I can say with great certainty that our aircraft launched from Langley came back with ALL of the ordinance that they had when they were launched out. Just for fun Google Happy Hooligans and see what comes up regarding us and 911.

Capt-soap, for more info regarding the possiblity of flying Predators go to our public site: www.happyhooligans.com

OH, one last thing--check out versions on this site, it explains why ADFs were the only production F-16s to carry the AIM-7 (continious wave capabilities)

I'll be sad to see the ADF birds go to the boneyard, as will alot other folks. As we all know, "the needs of the Air Force come first", but what can you do but "shut up and color"? I have heard some good jokes about the UAV's like, "what do you do if you crash a predator?, unstrap and go to the bar", and "you loose one of the best advantages of being a pilot when you start flying one of those things, being able to die with the airplane if you crash!" Very Happy

Redtail- Here's the original of the print I had signed and framed, and my humble opinion of trading a Viper for a predator Razz

I got some updated intel on the Predator Pilot stuff today. Though I was told quite a few times that tactical experience was a requirement, now it is not. You do at the moment still have to be a rated pilot in something where the wings and the cockpit are connected. In the next Predator school section they are experimenting by throwing two people who are not pilots at all into the training and see how they do.

Ha-
You should have told them that C-130 units used to be called Tactical Airlift Squadrons back in the MAC days. Then you could have asked "does the time still have to be tactical".?I have been hearing they are gonna let nav's fly UAV's if they have a civilian ticket with appropriate category/class ratings. I have also heard that you gotta have 500 hours in a airplane that YOU actually get off the ground in, but then, maybe thats why the non USAF pilot's for the predator to have a civilian ticket? Gossip Gossip Gossip....................... Bang Head
