What's the word on this contract? Is this another shot for Lockheed to bid a contract that they already had troubles on?

Are there other contractors submitting bids?

Are there any teaming agreements (Boeing/Lockheed maybe) submitting proposals?

Latest I've heard the JAGM called is "Brimstone 2", well thats Boeings version anyway. The speil said they'd taken the standard Brimstone and added a laser seeker to it.

So is that laser alongside the mm radar?

Strange that that article would come from Dothan.... And that the request came from a bunch of Alabama Senators.... Oh let's see...

Lockheed Martin built JCM - Had a plant in Troy.. Tests seekers primarily in Huntsville.... Hmmmm

Maybe not so strange...

Rocky

Maybe they can get JASSM going again, too.. (or is that a done deal?)

Any more on this contract?

We know Lockheed and Raytheon are [Link pending approval] say that BAE [Link pending approval]

Any dark horses out there that could steal this from Lockheed?

The companies that are for sure competing are Lockheed Martin and Raytheon/Boeing. The other suspected player is Northrop Grumman. Northrop is going through many changes right now with their re-alignment, so if they compete I see them needing a really strong [Link pending approval] suspect Rafael. That way they could use and leverage the Spike technology. I guess we will see what happens, but with the acquisition reform mandates from John Young, the competition should be interesting. The RFP is going to be released Feb. 15 according to many sources, but I wonder what will happen if it gets pushed off. With the elections coming up in Nov., the way the system works could be turned over again.

Is anyone else hearing anything about the teaming arrangements or who is confirmed to bid?

Aviation Week ( 2/4/08 ) reports that Army and Navy want to squelch a push to fund two contractors (likely Raytheon / Boeing & Lockheed) in the JAGM competition.

The Pentagon czar John Young wants to fund two contractors through development and select a winner for production (Sounds like SDB-II).

Cash strapped Army / Navy budgeteers say that this plan will cost too much, nearly $1.5B.

With the acquisition reform law could the Army/Navy really alter the
competition? Or are they just trying to push it further to the right?

Sounds like another no-bid contract coming, pick a winner then ask for bids. Rolling Eyes

I've heard that their latest attempt didn't work. Pretty much if anything was going to happen to alter the competition it would have had to happen months ago.

Looks like there's nothing left for the Army/Navy to do to change to process.

So if there is a competition and the Army/Navy doesn't get it its way, what companies will be in the down-select?

So, the JAGM RFP was officially released by the Army on March 5. Now, we will see the players coming out big time!! I think that Lockheed will do anything to win this one and I heard from people who went to AUSA that they were already planting messages to make competitors solutions' to JAGM be perceived poorly.

Brimstone... JAGMs cousin,.... now cleared to fly in combat with the UK....next stop Afghanistan...... Be nice if the U.S. had these available ... um .... TODAY Laughing to put on fast movers.

This would take care of putting a nice light weight weapon on USMC F-35Bs ( nice brick back to the boat weight comfort ) and because it is small and light it takes up less space for battlefield supply etc etc etc..... USMC Harriers could use this TODAY if it was available. The Brits have this figured out.

That looks like they Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V'd the Hellfire airframe. Different fins, and I'm assuming different guidance/warhead as well?
